Men and women all over America have problems with hair loss. Now, some are wondering whether a new solution can be levered against this age-old issue.
Some research indicates that as many as 60% of men 35 and older have been affected by hair loss. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that as many as 80 million men and women are affected by natural hair loss and conditions that lead to hair loss. [5]
In the face of this well-known problem, many have begun to question whether cannabidiol, or CBD, has benefits to keep the follicles fighting strong.
CBD is a non-psychoactive relative of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
Beyond uses like epilepsy, where CBD established its first FDA-approved drug treatment, many people also like to use CBD for relaxation, anxiety and other benefits of marijuana without the mind-altering high and positive drug tests.
Some varieties of CBD oils and products do contain THC, so buyer beware if you need to test clean for work!
One 2016 study at the National Institutes of Health found a connection between stress, the resulting cortisol that floods the body, and hair loss. [4]
This makes for interesting CBD connections, given how many use the compound for relaxation and for their ailments like chronic pain and inflammation.
According to the Virginia Daily Press, some connections have been found between inflammation and male-pattern baldness. [1]
Genetic factors predominate, but side effects of inflammation can sometimes be remedied by CBD, the Daily Press said.
Plus, CBD oil can help dry and flaky scalps when applied directly. Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids can also absorb into hair better by infusions of the CBD oils. [1]
According to Herb, a marijuana and CBD information blog, CBD oils have also been shown to contain magnesium, potassium and calcium, along with other useful ingredients and minerals. [2]
There are products available to care for and maintain one’s hair using CBD, but buyers should know that the science of hair loss and especially CBD’s effects on hair is still a fledgeling practice.
CBD fans and consumers who struggle with their hairline need to know first and foremost that there are many whacky new CBD products, and none of the science now shows a surefire cure to hair loss through cannabis.
